New work in GeoHealth shows that malaria came back in protected and rural areas of a Brazilian Amazon municipality after a control program had successfully suppressed it. The finding matters for HEAL’s remit: gains against climate-sensitive diseases can reverse where environmental and land-use pressures persist, and control programs need to plan for resurgence rather than treat elimination as permanent.
