AusEnHealth: Managing Place-Based Health in the Context of our Environment

Overview

AusEnHealth integrates environmental, health and sociodemographic data across Australia, creating an open, interactive, place-based digital infrastructure to support research, health planning, policy, environmental mitigation and healthier communities nationwide.

About the project

Environmental and climatic conditions critically affect human health, but relevant environmental, health and sociodemographic data are often fragmented and difficult to access at a local level.

AusEnHealth aims to create an open, interactive national infrastructure integrating place-based environmental, health and sociodemographic data to support research, health planning and evidence-based decision-making.

Methods

The project integrates and analyses diverse national datasets using spatial, epidemiological and data science approaches. It also explores federated learning for privacy-preserving multi-site data analysis and develops applications for climate-sensitive diseases. Partner-defined use cases will demonstrate and evaluate the platform through real-world applications.

Outcomes

AusEnHealth will provide an accessible national platform for visualising and analysing environmental and population health data, supporting surveillance, risk assessment, health planning, and early warning for climate-sensitive diseases.

AusEnHealth will strengthen place-based health decision-making, support targeted interventions and environmental mitigation strategies, improve health resource planning, and enhance preparedness for climate-sensitive health risks across Australia.
