Professor Ullrich Ecker is a cognitive scientist whose research focuses on human memory, particularly the impact of misinformation on memory, reasoning, and behaviour. He is based at the School of Psychological Science at the University of Western Australia.
Professor Ecker has led numerous large-scale research projects and is currently leading an Australian Research Council (ARC) funded project titled “Combating misinformation—Designing a toolkit to address a global problem.” In collaboration with his students and research partners, he has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and holds editorial roles with two academic journals. He is also a lead author of the Debunking Handbook 2020 (http://sks.to/db2020).
His work has been recognised for its impact across research, innovation, teaching, and supervision, as well as for his contributions to media and community engagement. Professor Ecker has provided expert advice to courts of law in Germany, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as to the Victorian and Singaporean parliaments and the European Commission. He has also contributed to reports for the Western Australian Government and the Australian Department of Health.
