The Northern Territory Hub / Communities of Practice (NTCOP) focus is on fostering a healthier future by addressing the significant impacts of environmental factors on public health across the NT region.
A major focus for the NTCOP is addressing issues in partnership with Indigenous communities, across remote, regional and urban settings.
The HEAL NTCOP seeks to bring together local researchers, policymakers, and community members to collaborate on innovative projects aimed at sustaining the health of our environments and communities.
Priorities
- Translation and Advocacy: Synthesising existing evidence to inform advocacy, particularly on the health and social impacts of heat, including health service use and food security.
- Community Engagement: Exploring innovative ways to engage community members and organisations to ensure emerging research priorities are identified and research uptake is strengthened.
- Sustainable Health Systems: Supporting health services to take leadership in reducing carbon footprints, minimising waste, and addressing low-value care.
- Disaster Preparedness: Examining community awareness, preparedness, and response to major environmental events, including potential PhD projects through the CDU–Menzies partnership.
- Building Local Research Capacity: Recruiting and retaining the next generation of researchers and establishing a critical mass of NT-based experts focused on place-based climate and health issues.
