Identifying research needs and building research capacity towards heat–health action in Australia
As part of a National Health and Medical Research Council–funded HEAL Innovation Project, researchers collaboratively developed a Heat and Health Systems Visualisation Map, presented in this talk‑book.
The map illustrates how extreme heat shapes interconnected systems that underpin everyday life in Australia, including housing and the built environment, transport and infrastructure, workforce capability, health and care services, community support networks, and the cooling options people depend on. Positioned at the core of the project, the map reframes heat as more than a climate or environmental concern: it is a systemic challenge with wide‑ranging social, economic and health implications.
